Product Details

Ornamental Hawthorn Paul’s Scarlet

Closely related to the common Hawthorn, Crataegus laevigata Paul’s Scarlet is a small, thorny, deciduous tree or large shrub, especially suitable for the informal or cottage garden. The growth habit is bushy and rounded. The flowers are fully double and a light, clear red, appearing in May. The deep green, glossy leaves are lobed like those of common whitethorn, appearing early and turning yellow and bronze in autumn as the crimson berries or haws appear. The haws persist after leaf-fall, as wild birds seem to like them less than other berries.
